Skateboarding is a double-edged sword; one second you'll be having the time of your life, and the next be pushing your way to the emergency room with a broken arm.
This toy, this piece of wood with a pair of trucks, a set of wheels, bearings, bolts and some sticky sandpaper has great power. It is capable of changing people's lives forever, bringing along opportunities that would seem impossible. Skating has been evolving before our eyes, becoming more technical and impressive by the year. Though it is ever-evolving, it still radiates the same joy no matter the age.
This love/hate relationship always has us coming back for more. The images here expand upon my own relationship with skateboarding as I grow out of my teen years, where falling means a little more than a tweaked ankle or another swallow. Tricks that used to be easy now at times face being a challenge and the risks that I would previously take I now the second guess. The reckless nature becomes less natural as I face adulthood more and more and the reward seems fogged.
